Places of excursions around Niedertiefenbach
Around Niedertiefenbach you can find many destinations, who can be gained quickly ba using a bycicle, motorbike or your car. What about a motorbike trip to the hills of Westerwals and Taunus? Without high inclines or declines, a bycicle trip along the river Lahn is a great experience. Here you can find a short list of worthwhile goals:
Old Lahn-bridge:

You can see a stony bridge having six arches. The gridge is 106meters long and each of the atrches is between 12m and 14m wide.
At the middle of the upriver side you can see a stoned sculpture. It personates the patron of bridges "Johann von Nepomuk".
At the downriver side you can see saint Nepomuk, opposite to a stony cross, which was a donation of the survivals of the pestilence in 1349.
While looking to the right you can see the gorgeous tower of the bridge. The base area is 14m2. The thoroughfare is controlled by a traffic light.
A Madonna figure is placed inside of the niche at the north of the tower, which was from the old chappel near the bridge.
Historic center ofLimburger:
Many beautiful old timber framed houses narrow the alleys around the dome. You can see some of the oldes and most beautiful half timberes houses of Germany.
Dome of Limburg:
The most outstanding building is the dome of Limburg. It was constructed on the top of a rock high above the river Lahn. The inauguration took place in 1235 and more than one architectural style can be discovered at this building.
The Dome consists of seven towers representing the seven sacraments or four earthly and three godly virtues.
The nave is arranged like a street leading to Jerusalem, where at the side aisles and the gallery form houses with their windows and doors.
Sagas from the bible are painted at the walls.
The castle of Runkel and it's historic center and old bridge:
The castle was constructed on the top of a rock about 35 to 40meters above the river Lahn to protect the old bridge. It was firstly mentioned in 1159 and consists of two parts. The upper part is just a ruine, the lower part a museum. Some rooms are inhabited other rooms, including the tower can be inspected.
Guided tours take place every day between 10h-17h (except mondays).
The tower of the bridges were pulled down in 1815 and reconstructed (made of wood) in the year 1984.
Basilica in Limburg- Dietkirchen:
The Basilica was constructed in the early middle ages and iit was one of the most important churches at the lower valley of the river Lahn. The interior consists of artwork of the 18th century
